I was fortunate to be born in the 1980s and grew up in the 1990s. When I was a child, one of my favorite novels (there were just three I was fascinated with) was âThe Polar Express. I was a teenager in 2004 when Tom Hanks' film was out. The book itself was released a year before my birth. As a result, when it was placed in the school library, it was still relatively fresh. When I first read this book, I recalled how, gazing at the wonderful artwork, I want to be one of the Polar Express's children. In my twenties, while living in Chicago, I had the opportunity to ride the Polar Express.
Amtrak launched a competition in 2016 to renovate and improve Union Station. Riverside Investment & Development Co., the winning developer, suggested a variety of upgrades, including expanded shops, a food hall, and two 12-story buildings. While repair work on the top sections of the Great Hall and skylight continued, over 130,000 daily commuters on Metra and Amtrak traveled through the large public area just below. To avoid causing obstructions and to ensure the safety of the public, a suspended work platform was hung from the structural steel beams of the skylight, with no scaffolding taking up precious floor space. The original skylight was reglazed, a new high-performance skylight was installed, and plaster, decorative painting, and historic lighting were restored to ensure the station's continued management for many years to come.
Union Station is more than a commuting hub; it is a stunning, traditional setting for a Chicago wedding. Union Station is situated in downtown Chicago, just west of the Loop, surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and Millennium Park.
