Langa had done it, he had beaten Joe, one of S's greatest racers, but Reki couldn't seem to forget that Langa's next race may be against Adam, and he knew that his friend would go all out to beat him, even if he was harmed in the process. Langa pushed himself to inconceivable heights, and Reki couldn't sit on the sidelines and watch. He couldn't stand by and watch Langa injure himself trying to compete with individuals well above his level. Reki recognized at that point that he couldn't just be a cheerleader on the sidelines. Only one thing remained for him to accomplish.
The way Langa finishes the race and joyously soars into Reki's embrace in a quick collision is eerily similar to the final scene of Yuri!!! on Ice, where Yuri confronts Victor after his ice skating performance. It's unclear whether Sk8: The Infinity made that metaphor on purpose, but Langa's dive hug conveys an incredible amount of love. Reki Kyan, a high school student, is obsessed with one thing: skateboarding. He goes to "S," an illegal underground race within a mine where skaters compete in extremely perilous settings, when night falls. Reki is now unable to practice at all following a loss that resulted in the destruction of his skateboard and the breaking of his arm.
