In retrospect, the last time this occurred to me was on a British Airways Club World flight from London to Male in 2014, when I requested a full English breakfast before to arrival and was informed that they had ran out. They then served the exact same option to the BA staff passenger next to me, who had been upgraded after departure by the cabin crew.
