Definitely NOT your typical mindless horror/vampire picture, and as a standalone film (not in comparison to the original), it is capable of eliciting a wide range of emotions. It also had a few jump-in-your-seats moments. This is a children's film? Without a certain, NO - this is not a sentimental romance starring gorgeous performers. It's a somber film with serious issues. You must read it with caution for tweens since it has some mature narrative lines about the kids at school and what Abby's father-figure is ready to do for her.
