Childish Gambino (a.k.a. Donald Glover) has had a busy year, having written, directed, and starred in his own FX series Atlanta and been cast as the young Lando Calrissian in an upcoming Star Wars film. The Atlanta actor-rapper, on the other hand, is not content with cinematic fame and is slated to release a new album in early December.
NotesThe third studio album by rapper/actor Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino was released on CD in 2016. As Childish Gambino removes his skin once again, Awaken My Love! Is a process of acoustic progression. One writer characterized it as R&B meets Pink Floyd, while others mentioned a fusion of rock, funk, and soul elements. It is a game-changing follow-up to the genre-defying STN MTN / Kauai mixtape and the twice-nominated rap album. Glover originally gained notoriety for his work with Derrick Comedy and was recruited as a writer for the NBC comedy series 30 Rock at the age of 23 with the assistance of Tina Fey. On November 15, 2011, he released his first album, Camp, to generally excellent reviews. Because the Internet, his second studio album, was released on December 10, 2013. Glover was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2015, one for Best Rap Album and the other for Best Rap Song for Because the Internet.
Even better, Wass had no idea it was coming. "It took me completely by surprise," she said. "The sculpture was initially intended for another artist... we even constructed a body cage for it." When the artwork was shown, her phone began to explode. Not a terrible outcome for a headpiece designed for another artist. We visited Wass' Bushwick studio to learn about her technique and to hear how her work has permeated the music industry's top crust.
